Carriage Crossing Restaurant, Yoder, KS

Carriage Crossing Restaurant on Urbanspoon

On our recent couple days around Wichita and Hutchinson, KS, this place was recommended to us. It turned out to be a great recommendation.

We got there around 1215, and were seated in about three minutes. The place was about 90% full.

We started off ordering onion rings and a cup of chili for an appetizer. The onion rings were really good; we had them with some ranch dressing on the side to dip them in. The chili was “out of season”. WHAT?

Each of our meals came with a salad. It wasn’t too bad, just a basic iceberg salad with some carrots.

Erin got a Chicken Fried Steak, and she ate about 85% of it (Dad and Ian got the rest). That was a really good CFS, I’d rate it a 9.25 out of 10. Tender, and tasty. The gravy was just the right thickness. Erin got green beans (pretty good) and applesauce (very good) with it, and chocolate milk.

Ian got fried chicken. He asked for four legs. It must have been pretty good, the stuff disappeared in about five minutes flat. He got fries with it.

I got a hamburger steak. This was a bit of a disappointment. It was advertised as a half pound, but I don’t think that it was anything like that, maybe a third. Also, it was overcooked (asked for medium well, got well), and it had some charring. It had grilled onions (good). By default, it come with grilled bell peppers, which I had asked to be not included, but were left on; there were not too many of these, fortunately. I got mashed potatoes and green beans for my sides, both were very good.

The meal came with some really, really good rough wheat bread, sliced and served with honey. I am not a huge bread fan, but that was really good stuff.

We all got iced tea, and it was good and kept refilled.

We left at 1335, and the place was about 80% full. The service was excellent, and our check was $34.14.

They sell bakery items as well. On the way out, we got a couple HUGE cinnamon rolls on the way out, along with three chocolate doughnuts (one of which was immediately eaten by Ian), all for just $4.34. Really good!

This is a good place to go a bit out of your way to eat at. We drove down from Hutchinson, it was about 10 minutes each way.
