Cool Things From The Air, SMF-LAX-OKC, 25 October 2012

I flew home from the Sacramento area Thursday, and saw a couple neat things from the airplane.

I thought these shadows cast from some Sierra mountains were pretty cool. This is towards the south end of the Sierra.

We flew a bit farther west than I thought we would, to near Santa Barbara. We turned due east and saw the famous Hollywood sign, and then downtown LA.

After we departed LAX, we came around the corner of Rancho Palos Verde. The LA Basin was fairly clear.

We cruised across the Colorado and into Arizona. This is the Bagdad Mine, an open pit copper and molybdenum mine NW of Phoenix.

A little farther on, there was this pretty-much-square town. It’s Wilhoit, Arizona. Turns out Raegan and the kids and I drove through here a couple years ago. We were looking for someplace to get dinner, and ended up driving up an Arizona backroad near Bagdad, before hitting US 93 and having dinner in Kingman.

This is the very nice town of Prescott, AZ. A little farther on, another view of the Village of Oak Creek. And the next shot is a view of the red rock formations around Sedona, with Flagstaff and Mount Humphreys in the background.

This is Foss Lake in western Oklahoma.

That’s it!
